Shield : Protect

shield : protect explores notions of apotropaic magic.

It followings an ongoing interest in how to ward off/ protect against unseen ‘evils’, miasmas, hexes, curses, death, with a focus on maintaining physical, mental and spiritual health for the maker/ wearer/ holder. These works were created late 2019 to early March 2021, with a force to maintain a creative outlet during the dislocation of the pandemic.

They hint on ritualistic and altered religious practices and how we may create assertive, if not superstitious, actions to protect ourselves.
